MARLBORO, N.J. A local first aid volunteer remained in critical condition on July 6, a week after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident while responding to an emergency call. A spokeswoman at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, said Ronny Tornberg, 48, of Marlboro, was still in critical condition earlier this week. Tornberg is a member of the Marlboro First Aid Squad, Wyncrest Road.Marlboro police Sgt. Joseph Lenge told the News Transcript that Tornberg was traveling north on Robertsville Road at 10:16 a.m. June 30 when the vehicle he was driving was involved in an accident with a vehicle that was exiting Clubhouse Lane. Lenge said Tornberg was responding to an emergency medical call at the time of the accident. Clubhouse Lane is the exit from the Greenbriar adult community. The vehicle that was involved in the accident with Tornberg was being driven by Florence Weinstein, 82, of Marlboro, Lenge said. He said Weinstein did not suffer any injuries. Her vehicle was slightly damaged, he reported. At the point of impact, Tornbergs vehicle rolled over five or six times before Tornberg was ejected from the car through its sunroof, Lenge said. The officer said Tornberg was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. He was taken by helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The police departments Traffic and Safety Bureau is investigating the accident, Lenge said.Asked if Tornberg may have sustained less serious injuries if he had been wearing a seat belt, Lenge said, “I imagine so. He would have stayed in the vehicle.”
