A Breathitt County fire station caught fire this morning and most of the FF’s live within a few miles from the station in Canoe and immediately called for backup.
“We seen that we needed help and we sent out a call. I believe every FD in Breathitt County come to us. And we appreciate that,” said Canoe Fire Chief Ben Nickell. The fire tore through a building connected with the stations apparatus bays, destroying the meeting room, kitchen, and most of their storage. Despite all the damage, Nickell says that all of the gear and apparatus they need to respond to calls was saved. Only one firefighter was hurt in the blaze, suffering minor injuries. He was treated and later released. The cause of the fire was electrical, starting in the building with the most damage.
