Three people were injured, including a firefighter, Sunday afternoon when a Cal Fire law enforcement truck responding to a structure fire with emergency lights and sirens on was involved in a crash with two civilian vehicles on Stockton Road in Sonora, across from the Mother Lode Fairgrounds.
The crash was reported at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, the CHP stated in a news release. Lori Cook, 71, of Sonora, was driving a 2026 Subaru Crosstrek that was stopped at Fairview Lane and Stockton Road at the same time Cal Fire Apparatus Engineer Thomas Fraser was driving a Cal Fire pickup south on Stockton Road to an unrelated incident.
Cook entered the intersection directly into the path of the emergency vehicle, which struck the front end of her Subaru before continuing south and hitting a third vehicle that was stopped in the left-turn lane from Stockton Road to Fairview Lane. the CHP stated.
The third vehicle involved in the crash was identified by the CHP as a 2011 Honda Pilot driven by Daenara Watson, 30, of Sonora.
Fraser and Watson both suffered minor injuries and received medical treatment at the scene. Cook also suffered injuries described as minor by the CHP and was flown by helicopter to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
The CHP said all of the people involved in the accident were wearing seat belts at the time, and alcohol or drugs were not suspected to be factors in the crash.
