Jefferson City, Missouri — The Jefferson City Fire Department ladder truck was parked on St. Mary’s Boulevard Wednesday while the crew conducted fire prevention inspections at nearby businesses.
At approximately 3 p.m., a tractor-trailer struck a nearby high-voltage electric line, bringing the pole and line down on top of the fire truck, and energizing the apparatus. Fire personnel were not on board at the time of the accident.
Additional fire apparatus, along with Ameren UE and the Jefferson City Police Department arrived on the scene to assist. Ameren UE secured the high-voltage lines and restored power to area residents and businesses as quickly as possible.
Currently, the Jefferson City Fire Department and the manufacturer of the fire apparatus are assessing the damages to the truck. At this time, the extent of the damage is unknown.
