The number of reported public safety deaths due to COVID increased significantly between July and August 2021, according to the NFFF.
In July, 15 deaths were reported, In August, 43 deaths were reported.
The current numbers for reported COVID-related deaths are:
Fire: 149 (2020: 84; 2021 to-date: 65)
EMS: 78 (2020: 68; 2021 to-date: 10)
Law Enforcement: 493 (2020: 339; 2021 to-date: 154)
PSAP: 17 (2020: 14; 2021 to-date: 3)
Total Public Safety Officers: 737
