HAGERSTOWN, Md. (DC News Now) — First responders in Hagerstown are now better equipped for emergencies.
It is the result of long-awaited technology upgrades to communications systems. A new 135-foot tower on Longmeadow Road just north of town from AT&T and its partner, FirstNet, has been a lifesaver.
“The addition of the tower and help from First Net has been a lifesaver. It’s allowed our members to get immediate notifications and not miss calls,” Rob Flint, president of the Longmeadow Fire Company, said.

Jason Eckstine, chief of the Longmeadow Volunteer Fire Department, said the system prioritizes things.
“If there’s an emergency, a disaster, whatever, we have reliable emergency communications to get additional help for an incident,” he said.
Flint said the new tower has helped with communication coverage.
“We’re appreciative of the support we’ve gotten from AT&T and First Net. It serves the public and helps the first responders,” Flint said.
