CLOSE CALL – COLLAPSE AT HOUSE FIRE – MISSOURI

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One firefighter was hurt, and multiple homes were damaged after a large fire broke out in the Northeast Industrial District Sunday morning, according to the Kansas City Fire Department.

KCFD reported that units were called to the area of North Garland Avenue and Rochester Avenue at about 10:50 a.m. on reports of a large fire at a vacant home.

When crews arrived, they reported seeing smoke and fire coming from the structure, leading them to begin their offensive attack operations.

According to KCFD, as they were attempting to extinguish the fire, the roof of the home partially collapsed, forcing units to evacuate and fight the fire from outside. It was placed under control by about 11:20 a.m.

A house to the west of the original fire was damaged, KCFD said. The Red Cross was called to help its occupants.

One firefighter was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, and according to the PIO, they are expected to recover.
