Rockland County, New York State and Federal investigators conducted a raid on the Spring Valley (Rockland County, NY New York) Village Hall this afternoon, in connection with the investigative probe into that deadly March fire at the Rockland County adult home that killed Spring Valley Firefighter Jared LLoyd.
It is reported that village documents connected to the fatal Evergreen Court fire in March are suspected to be potentially fraudulent. The scope of the investigation is now expanding to include the entire village. The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office was leading the raid along with New York state fire inspectors and agents from the Federal Department of Homeland Security.
Spring Valley Mayor Alan Simon – a disbarred former judge who was removed from the bench for misconduct – had no comment about the raid. Investigators had said two days after the fire destroyed the facility that its automatic fire alarm system was offline at the time of the fire. Multiple sources claim that the alarm system was not connected to the county’s central fire dispatch when the fire broke out, meaning someone in the facility called 911 to report the fire. In fact, claims are that the system had been taken offline the evening before the deadly fatal fire.
Spring Valley Columbian Fire Company Firefighter Jared Lloyd died in the Line of Duty at that fire while removing occupants, and a resident of the facility died as well.
FF Lloyd was one of the first firefighters to arrive at the scene and was on the third floor when he became disoriented and eventually trapped there. Lloyd was last heard from when he issued a mayday call, and did not make it out of the building as it collapsed.
Much more to follow as this unfolds.
