Car’s driver hurt after crashing into ambulance – Indiana

The collision of a passenger car and an Indianapolis EMS ambulance Monday evening on the Eastside caused serious injury to the car’s driver, police said.

The crash occurred about 6:05 p.m. in the 5200 block of East 21st Street.

The preliminary investigation indicates the ambulance was westbound on 21st and the car was being driven erratically in the eastbound lanes, according to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department news release.

The ambulance driver attempted to avoid the collision, but the car weaved into the ambulance’s path and the vehicles collided head-on, police said. The car flipped over after colliding with the ambulance.

The motorist was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital in serious condition, police said.

The ambulance was carrying two employees and a patient, but none of them suffered serious injuries, according to the release.

Officers on scene said alcohol may have contributed to the crash, and the FACT Team responded to the scene to assist investigators, the release said.

No names of the people who were injured were immediately available.
