A Thursday morning attic fire displaced four residents and caused an estimated $250,000 in damage.
Heavy smoke was seen coming from the single-story residence shortly after a 3:51 a.m. fire was reported on the 800 block of Brookwood Avenue.
A resident witnessed “lightning,” and heard popping and crackling noises coming from the attic, according to a release from Vallejo Fire Department spokesman Bill Tweedy.
Fire investigators determined the blaze was accidental, likely sparked by an electrical short that ignited the home’s exterior and moved into the attic, Tweedy said.
The home’s four occupants escaped without injury, Tweedy said.
A Vallejo firefighter, however, suffered a burn to his eye and the skin around his eye, and was treated at Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center.
