We regret to pass on that Sean Laffan, an interim Assistant Fire Chief of the Oakland(California) Fire Department, died Monday night after collapsing inside the department’s building…Chief Laffan was 42 years old. Among his survivors is one of his sons, a probationary OFD Firefighter.
He collapsed at about 1700 hours and fire command staff immediately began efforts to save him, and an ambulance rushed him to Summit Medical Center in Oakland. He died in the Line of Duty-at the hospital around 2215 hours after going into a prolonged cardiac arrest.
Chief Laffan joined the Oakland Fire Department in 2000 and became the interim Assistant Fire Chief in June and was one of three assistant chiefs in the department. Chief Laffan is survived by his wife, Sabrina, and sons Caeden, Connor and Cooper. Caeden Laffan is a probationary Firefighter within the department. Our condolences to all those affected.
