Officials are now saying that the Canton fire that injured nine firefighters was arson. The house fire spread to two other homes and occupants were foreced to run to safety. Several firefighters fell through a floor in the house where the fire started and others were shocked by electrical wires that hit aluminum gutter spouts near their ladders.
Acting Battalion chief Chuck Goldy of the Cfd said six firefighters had to be taken to the hospital but none was believed to have serious injuries.
About 30 city firefighters responded to the fire about 1:30 p.m. Thursday and found flames already bursting out of the house’s windows.
Firefighters needed more than three hours to bring the blaze under control.
Officials believe someone set a couch and chair on fire in the home and then ran. They said they think the fire may be connected to a string of 14 arson fires at vacant homes starting in early 2008.
