On January 1, 2026, at 13:30 hrs, the Monee Fire Protection District was working at a rollover accident on I-57. The fire engine was positioned at an angle to provide protection for the fire personnel and to indicate that the lane was blocked. There were several emergency vehicles on scene, all of them with warning lights activated. The fire engine was hit by a car that failed to move over and reduce speed. No fire department personnel were injured. Additional ambulances were called to transport four people from the offending vehicle to area hospitals. Please pay attention to your driving.
