A paramedic, a transportee, and a man driving a pickup were all taken to the hospital after the ambulance and pickup collided at Mount Vernon and West Bypass around 4:39 p.m. today.
But none of those involved appear to have life-threatening injuries, said Sgt. Brian Phillips of the Springfield Police Department.
Phillips said investigators who interviewed several witnesses got several conflicting accounts about the accident.
Though the northbound ambulance was transporting someone to Cox North at the time, it is unclear if the ambulance was involved in an emergency transport or not. Some witnesses said the ambulance displayed flashing lights and used its siren, others said it did not.
Ambulances sometimes transport patients to hospitals for situations which are not emergencies.
If the ambulance wasn’t flashing its emergency lights, it is also unclear whether it or the westbound truck had the right of way, said Phillips.
The paramedic and the person being transported were taken to Cox South after the accident. The driver of the pickup was also taken to an area hospital, said Phillips.
