AMBULANCE INVOLVED IN MULTI VEHICLE CRASH IN MICHIGAN

ANN ARBOR, MI – Michigan State Police issued a ticket to a man from Springfield, Texas, after a five-vehicle crash that occurred Monday, Jan. 30 on eastbound M-14 in Superior Township.

The crash occurred about 9 a.m. Monday near Ford Road and sent six people to the hospital with minor injuries.

Later, the Texas man was cited for failure to stop within assured clear distance — a violation of basic speed law in Michigan.

“The car that initially crashed, that caused the whole mess, was the Acura (driven by the Texas man),” said Sgt. Chris Pascoe of the MSP Brighton Post. “He struck another car and then that led to the other three cars all going into them.”

One of the vehicles involved in the crash was an ambulance with Huron Valley Ambulance that had been transporting a patient to Ann Arbor.

“The ambulance was not … responding there,” Pascoe said. “They had a patient in the ambulance and they were taking him to the hospital. They happened to just be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“They slid into the other crash that already occurred; they couldn’t avoid it.”

Two other vehicles also slid into the fray following the HVA ambulance.

Pascoe said only the driver of the Acura, deemed responsible for creating the crash circumstances, was issued a ticket.
