Ambulance hits Selmer Subway after accident with another car – Tennessee

From the Jackson Sun

A Sunday afternoon car crash caused an ambulance to smash into a Subway restaurant in Selmer.

The ambulance was on an emergency call, with lights and sirens blaring, when it approached a traffic light, said Selmer Police Chief Neal Burks.

As the ambulance driver tried to go around a car that was waiting to turn left, the driver of the other car turned left and into the ambulance, he said.

Then the ambulance hit the Subway in the front of the building, which is off Mulberry and Poplar avenues, Burks said. Subway is in the South Square Shopping Center.

The drivers of both vehicles were injured, but no injuries were reported from inside the restaurant, Burks said.

The ambulance hit a barricade that had been placed in front of the building between the parking lot and the door, he said.

"This building has been run into before, back when it was a Social Security office," he said. "So the owner of the property installed those barriers."

The driver of the car that hit the ambulance was ticketed, Burks said.
