A ambulance driver and a patient in the ambulance are killed in a Ross County crash Wednesday.

Chillicothe troopers were dispatched to Hospital Road, near Delano Road, on a report of a crash at about 9:47 a.m. Wednesday.

Troopers found a crash involving two vehicles, including an ambulance.

According to officials, the ambulance and a Carter’s Lumber truck were traveling southbound on Hospital Road when the lumber truck attempted to turn left onto Delano Road.

The ambulance did not see the truck turning and crashed into the back of the truck, officials said.

Lumber from the truck went into the ambulance, officials said.

The ambulance driver, 21-year-old Cody King, of Chillicothe, was killed.

The patient from the ambulance, Barbara McWhorter, 72, was also killed in the crash.

The driver of the lumber truck, Carl Dearth, was transported to Adena Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators said the ambulance did not have assured clear distance, was not speeding and was not running lights or a siren.

No other details were released, but NBC4 will update as we learn new information.
