Last night, shortly after midnight, your Allen Park Firefighters were extinguishing a car fire on I-94 near Pelham, a 70 mph freeway. Engine 52 with 4 on suppression, Ladder 51 for protection of the men. Ladder 51 was occupied by 2 firefighters, and was struck in the left rear by 2 vehicles. Major damage occurred to the ladder and the 2 vehicles. Three people were treated and transported by Taylor Fire (thank you!). Our firefighters were shaken up, but seem to be uninjured. We thank God for this. It could have been much worse if no for proper apparatus placement. We pray for the individuals involved in the crash. We are thankful for proper training and staffing, to provide a blocker. Ladder 51, 47 feet long and 88,000 pounds, will be out of service for quite some time. Slow down. Move over. Save lives!
