A car rammed into an Akron fire truck that was responding to another crash Oct. 6 on Interstate 76, according to Akron Fire Fighters Local 330.
Akron Fire Engine 2 was on scene helping a medical unit for a prior crash when a driver struck the rear end of the engine, causing significant damage to both the fire engine and the car, according to the firefighters’ union.
The driver of the gray car that crashed into the fire engine was transported by paramedics for evaluation. No firefighters or paramedics were injured.
In its Facebook post, the union said the crash “is a good reminder to slow down in heavy traffic,” especially when emergency vehicles are responding to an accident scene.
“Limit distractions when driving and stay vigilant for emergency vehicles operating on the roadway,” the post reads. “SLOW DOWN AND MOVE OVER. It’s the law and could safe a life.”
