ALASKA CANCER LODD-Chief Phil Rounds – The Secret List from FireFighterCloseCalls.com
We regret to inform you about the passing of nationally known Fire Instructor and highly respected and loved Battalion Fire Chief Philip E. Rounds, E.F.O. of the University of Alaska FD. Chief Rounds, 55, died last week from job related cancer complications…he bravely worked full-time until a week before his untimely death. Phil was extremely dedicated to the issues of firefighter training, safety, health and survival and had a special interest in airport rescue fire operations. Chief Rounds was one of the great ones, the type of firefighter firefighters listened to, laughed with, enjoyed and emulated as they started and grew their own fire service careers. Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Chief Phil Rounds.

MISSISSIPPI LOST FIREFIGHTER RESCUE BEING REVIEWED:
As you may remember a few weeks ago, a Firefighter was lost and disoriented in a church fire in Jackson, MS and another FF outside the structure heard his call for help. That FF outside ran in, found the missing FF-and rescued the lost firefighter who was by himself inside. And while successful, the rescuing FF went in to make the grab by himself as well.

ANOTHER AERIAL WATERWAY "TAKES OFF"
In what reminds us of the recent tragic LODD of Lawrence Park (PA) Asst Chief (and Erie career FF) Mike Crotty, this recent incident happened to Montreal (CAN) FD Ladder Company 423 – a 1994 Nova Quintech Sky Five (100 ft 5 section). While at a 5th alarm, their waterway "took off" flying-and landed….but thanksfully no Firefighters were hurt.
