On January 25, 2023 the Crawfordsville Fire Department (IN.) was called for a structure fire by CPD already on the scene. CPD stated shots had been fired in the residence. Arrived on scene with heavy smoke pushing out A Side front picture window of a single story ranch style residence. Police on scene as Chief 1 arrived with CPD stating there was a possible active shooter inside. At this time C-1 assumed Command, advising all fire units to stage on Main Street until Police could secure the scene. CPD and Montgomery County Sherriff Deputies had taken several windows out trying to locate a possible suspect.
E-1 laid 400 ft. of 5 inch for water supply. Once the scene was secure E-2 was ordered to make fire attack through the A Side door. By the time the residence was secure there were two smoke columns coming from the A & C sides of the residence. Tower 1 was ordered to do a primary victim search; two vehicles were noted in the driveway. Engine 1 established a water supply.
Police thought there was a victim in the B/C Side bedroom, but could not tell because of black smoke. Tower 1 crew went on air into the B/C bedroom window unsure if there was an active gunman. With police covering them, a male victim was located in the B/C bedroom, near the window. Tower 1 stated victim was found on the floor in a fetal position. Tower 1 was able to remove victim from the residence through the C side bedroom window. Victim was unconscious and taken directly to an ambulance for medical treatment.
E2 attacked the fire which was located in the A Side Livingroom area while PD covered them. The bulk of the fire was contained in this area.
A Secondary search was made of the residence, search was negative. The other resident of the home had already evacuated the residence before the fire.
