PRICHARD, W.Va. — U.S. Route 52 was closed after an accident between a Wayne County Ambulance and an SUV Tuesday evening, Wayne County 911 Dispatchers said.
The accident happened at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday as a Kenova ambulance was en route to its station from an emergency call. Dispatchers said the ambulance was on the entrance ramp to U.S. Route 52 in Prichard when the SUV struck the ambulance.
The driver of the SUV was injured and taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center, but the identity and the condition of the driver were not available Tuesday evening. A Healthnet helicopter was called out, but dispatchers said weather conditions made it difficult for it to respond to the scene.
Dispatchers said no one in the ambulance had been injured.
The dispatcher said law enforcement on the scene yelled over the radio that there was an accident, and emergency crews were needed on the scene. Prichard and Kenova Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene, and the Ceredo Volunteer Fire Department covered KVFD’s area while that department was on the scene.
Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputies and the West Virginia State Police responded to the scene, which is still under investigation.
