A Quick, Personal Note (The Secret List)

All,

Unless you’ve been internet-free for the past two weeks, you are aware that the IAFF & FCSN have partnered together for all Firefighters and designated January as Fire Fighter Cancer Awareness Month. The goal is to provide firefighters the necessary tools and guidance to develop life-saving protocols for cancer prevention and to support those with a cancer diagnosis within their departments.
HERE are the links and a video:
A PERSONAL NOTE TO YOU:
In the past 3 weeks, I have personally worked with several firefighter friends and two new firefighter friends helping them navigate FIREFIGHTER OCCUPATIONAL CANCER.
After going through my own fight with very aggressive PROSTATE CANCER (found due to screening), I thought the least I could do is go through the FF PEER Support Training with FCSN and be of some help with some of our own going through it.
But here’s the issue. Of those I am working with currently,
ALL BUT ONE ignored symptoms.
ALL BUT TWO “PUT OFF” FOLLOW UPS/SCREENINGS.
YOU CANNOT IGNORE THE SYMPTOMS… I am begging you.
YOU CANNOT IGNORE GETTING SCREENED AS A FIREFIGHTER.
Cancer is just OLD Firefighters? Bullshit.
READ THIS ARTICLE LITERALLY FROM TODAY’S HEADLINES:
That’s it. That’s my quick, personal note. Don’t be a moron by ignoring getting screened. Don’t be a moron by ignoring symptoms. The “fire” will only get worse if the fire department isn’t called. If you ignore cancer it will not go away. If you have symptoms and get checked you may not have it at all.
And if you aren’t personally worried about “having” cancer, then unselfishly think of those who love you, you love, and those who count on you. Imagine THEM dealing with YOUR cancer….
Here is a piece I wrote about “My Cancer” …take a look if you haven’t read it.
Here is a podcast about it and a website to help those with PROSTATE CANCER:

And, if you need more convincing that screenings work, check out this article by one of our very own FFCC brothers:

PLEASE read the IAFF & FCSN Information and TAKE ACTION. Force your Brothers & Sisters. Unions & Associations: Support It. Chiefs: Provide it.
There is nothing better than finding out you DON’T have cancer.
There is nothing better than HAVING IT and BEATING IT.
There is nothing worse than knowing something was possibly up and ignoring it.
Don’t do that.
Please get checked-I am begg’n you.
NOTE:
This is the last week to purchase a FFCC 25th Anniversary shirt where every dollar above cost will be donated to the Firefighter Cancer Support Network:
Take Care. Be Careful. Pass It On.
