A firefighter who caught fire while at a burning house in Londonderry last week has released a statement thanking his crew.
Lt. Mike England said he has received an outpouring of support since Oct. 2, when he caught fire during a flashover while he was inside a burning house.
In a statement on social media, England thanked his crew, who he said stepped in to take care of him.
“My crew had to watch their lieutenant on fire,” he said. “They had to extinguish me, watch me stand up injured and burning while frantically patting me out. Then they had to turn around and get back into the fight. And that’s exactly what they did. We finished that fight together.”
England went on to say that he’s excited to be back at the station soon.
Officials said earlier this week that England suffered a leg fracture and minor burns.
