One person was sent to hospital after a Langley City fire vehicle and a pickup truck collided on Sunday afternoon.
Around 5:22 p.m. Aug. 16, Langley RCMP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of 203 St. and Fraser Highway that involved a Langley Fire Rescue Service fire apparatus and a pickup truck.
Preliminary findings indicate that the fire apparatus was responding to a service call with its emergency lights and sirens activated and was proceeding through the intersection when it was struck by the pickup truck, RCMP said.
The driver of the pickup truck sustained what were described as minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for assessment and treatment.
The incident remains under investigation, said St. Zynal Sharoom of the Langley RCMP.
“Emergency responders rely on motorists to recognize and react appropriately when lights and sirens are activated,” Sharoom said.
“Drivers are reminded of their responsibility under the Motor Vehicle Act to yield the right-of-way to emergency vehicles responding to emergencies. Taking a moment to safely pull over and allow emergency personnel to pass helps protect everyone on our roadways and ensures first responders can reach those in need as quickly as possible.”
Anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dash camera footage and has not yet spoken with police is asked to contact the Langley RCMP.
Langley Advance Times has reached out to the City fire department.
