All,
We regret to pass on that the Laredo (Texas) Fire Department is mourning the death of one of its Firefighters following an incident over the weekend at a fire station on Mines Road.
Mayor Victor Trevino confirmed the death yesterday (Monday) morning, saying it appears to be self-inflicted. The investigation remains ongoing.
Mayor Trevino used the announcement to address anyone who may be struggling.
“Whenever somebody is in a situation that needs help, there’s always help. You’re never alone,” Trevino said. “We have promoted the 9-8-8 phone call you can do. And get together with people. Just talk to somebody. Whenever somebody’s in despair or distress, they are not alone. They can talk to somebody.”
The Laredo Fire Department and city officials are asking for privacy and respect for the firefighter’s family during this time.
Anyone struggling can call or text 9-8-8 at any time to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
