SMOKE ALARM SAVES COUNCE RESIDENT DURING OVERNIGHT HOUSE FIRE

HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn. (WBBJ) – A smoke alarm installed by the Hardin County Fire Department woke a resident early Thursday morning as fire broke out inside their home on Damron Loop, firefighters said.

Crews responded to the reported residential fire at 12:10 a.m. on July 10 and arrived within eight minutes. Firefighters found a fire in the bathroom, quickly extinguished the flames and ventilated smoke from the home.

The cause of the fire was a candle left burning on the sink too close to a curtain.

Smoke alarm installed through free county program
The smoke alarm that alerted the occupant had been installed by the Hardin County Fire Department in April 2026 as part of the department’s free smoke alarm program.

The department said the save brings the total number of lives saved through the program to 44 since it launched in 2012. More than 18,000 smoke alarms have been installed in Hardin County through the program.

Residents who need free smoke alarms can call 731-925-6178 or text Chief Martin at 731-607-0346. The department said alarms will be installed at no cost.
