All,
In Canada, Northwest Territories Fire has advised that the “serious incident” involving a bird dog aircraft near Fort Simpson on Wednesday was a crash, and that three people were onboard the aircraft.
NWT Fire did not provide information about the occupants or their condition in an update on Thursday morning, nor did the RCMP, who indicated that the Transportation Safety Board has taken the lead in the investigation.
The plane, a fixed-wing Turbo Commander 960 Bird Dog 104, was supporting an air tanker group in suppression efforts against fire FS009-26, which is was discovered yesterday and is about 55 km west of Fort Simpson.
In a statement on social media late Thursday morning, Buffalo Air confirmed that the downed aircraft was part of its fleet.
The statement added that there was no more information to add and that the company be given the space needed to support the investigation.
NWT Fire says the RCMP were at the site in the evening as part of a “coordinated response with ECC to launch an investigation and confirm the status of the aircraft’s occupants.”
Critical incident stress management specialists are being deployed to the fire crew bases to help staff process the events. KTIYP’s
