OKLAHOMA BRUSH UNIT INVOLVED IN RESPONDING ROLLOVER CRASH

GUYMON, Okla. (KFDA) – The Guymon Fire Department had a rollover crash while responding to fires Thursday.

Guymon Fire Chief Grant Wadley says two firefighters are recovering from the crash.

Around 4:20 p.m., a Guymon Fire Brush unit was responding to a large grass fire when the crash happened.

The crash happened north of Guymon on Highway 136 around six miles south of the Kansas line.

“The front tire caught the right shoulder edge of the highway, overcorrected with water in the tank shifting, then rolled 1 and a half times, coming to a rest upside down in the east ditch,” said Chief Wadley.

Both firefighters were able to get out of the truck and call for help.

Paramedics and coworkers treated and transported the injured firefighters to Memorial Hospital of Texas County.

The driver was treated and released with minor injuries while the passenger was admitted in stable condition with chest and back injuries.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating the crash assisted by Texas County Sheriff’s Office and Texas County Commissioners.

Chief Wadley says the fires in Oklahoma were all started by dry lightning strikes from storms passing through the area.

Firefighters and Oklahoma Forestry Service are remaining on the scene of some of the fires in all three Oklahoma Panhandle counties today.
