FIRE TRUCK HIT IN MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH

CASCADE, Colo. (KKTV) – Colorado State Patrol (CSP) confirmed a firetruck was hit in a crash on Highway 24 near Cascade Friday night.

Eastbound Highway 24 was closed for more than an hour between Rampart Terr Road and Hagerman Avenue at mile point 293. The road reopened around 9:40 p.m.

CSP said the closure was due to a series of crashes and vehicle slide-offs in the area. They said one of those crashes involved at least four vehicles.

A firetruck with the Green Mountain Falls Volunteer Fire Department was struck in one of those crashes, and State Patrol said two box trucks were also involved in the series of crashes.

A member of the Green Mountain Falls Volunteer Fire Department told 11 News that approximately 16 vehicles had crashed on the roadway within a half-mile stretch in that area. He said their rescue vehicle was struck while crews were responding to a separate crash.

At this time, no injuries have been reported.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said that roads in the area were icy and snow-packed. CSP said road conditions remain poor. Drivers should be careful in the area.
