CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Three firefighters were injured while battling a house fire in Cranston Tuesday morning, 12 News has confirmed.
Crews responded to a multi-family home on Central Street, off Narragansett Boulevard, around 11 a.m. following a 911 call.
Assistant Fire Chief James Woyciechowski said firefighters initially struggled to pinpoint the location of the fire until they reached the second floor.
“When they opened that door, it flashed over on them,” Woyciechowski explained.
Three firefighters were injured in the explosion and taken to the hospital.
The remaining crew evacuated the building and worked to funnel water toward the roof, which had partially collapsed. It reportedly took about an hour to knock down the fire.
