FIREFIGHTER FALLS THROUGH FLOOR AT FIRE – UNINJURED – NORTH CAROLINA

STOKES COUNTY, N.C. — A firefighter was briefly trapped but not injured during a structure fire Saturday afternoon at a home in the 1000 block of Rhodes Loop, according to the Northeast Stokes Volunteer Fire & Rescue.

Crews from Stokes-Rockingham Fire & Rescue Station 36 were dispatched at 1:34 p.m. and arrived to find a working fire with heavy flames concentrated at the rear of the residence. Firefighters initiated an interior attack through the front of the home.

During operations, a firefighter fell through a floor from an estimated height of about 6 feet, prompting a brief mayday call. Exterior crews quickly removed the firefighter, who was evaluated and found to be uninjured, officials said.

After the fire was brought under control, crews conducted salvage and overhaul operations to extinguish remaining hot spots and minimize damage to the residents’ belongings. All occupants of the home were accounted for and unharmed.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including Stokes-Rockingham Fire & Rescue Station 37, Danbury Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad Station 39, South Stokes Fire & Rescue Station 40, Stokes County EMS, Stokes County 911, the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Rockingham County, Madison Fire Department Station 50, Mayodan Fire Department Station 60 and Duke Energy.
