TWO FIREFIGHTERS INJURED AT SAN FRANCISCO FIRE

A three-alarm fire raged in San Francisco’s Marina district early Wednesday morning, injuring three firefighters who were taken to the hospital, the department said.

San Francisco Fire Department Chief Dean Crispen said the two firefighters fell from the third floor to the second floor and suffered back injuries. A third sustained some injuries to his shoulder and arm after overexerting himself, officials said.

Cripsen said the fire broke out at 4:15 a.m. in the 2500 block of Chestnut Street at a three-story building that is under construction. No one was living in the building at the time.

Crispen said 145 firefighters were called to the scene, where the fire was heaviest on the second floor, as well as to a building on the left.

By 6 a.m., neighboring residents were allowed to return to their homes.

Brian Stelmar, who lives next door, said he was worried about his nursery and his pregnant wife, but both turned out to be okay.

“You could visibly see what looked like a bonfire in the middle of the window on the second floor,” he said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
