FOUR INJURED IN PICKUP VS AMBULANCE CRASH IN ALABAMA

A violent impact right into the driver’s side door of a Medstar ambulance, hit by a pickup truck at the intersection of Highway 59 and Flowerwood Road in Loxley around 9 a.m. Tuesday.

“The light had turned red, and the ambulance went to clear the intersection, and the truck pulled out in front of the ambulance and t-boned the ambulance.” Marshall Thomas saw and heard the lights and sirens of the ambulance as it headed north on Highway 59.

“When I looked and I heard the impact and I looked, I saw the bottom of the ambulance and then it proceeded through the fence up and over the ditch through the parking lot and hit a parked car over there in the hotel parking lot,” said Thomas.

He then immediately jumped into action.

“Back home in Mississippi, I volunteer for the fire department, so it’s just in me to help. So, whenever I see anything like this, my first reaction is to help. I can get my job done anytime, but they need help now,” said Thomas.

“According to state law, running lights and sirens are requesting the right of way. So, traffic is supposed to stop for responders when lights and sirens are activated,” said Capt. Doug Phillips with Loxley police.

The driver, the medic, and the patient in the back of the ambulance were all taken to the hospital, as well as the driver of the pickup.

No names have been released at this time. All are expected to be okay.
