FIREFIGHTER INJURED AT MYRTLE BEACH FIRE WITH “RAPIDLY CHANGING CONDITIONS”

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – A firefighter is hurt after a two-alarm home fire in the Grand Strand on Thursday.

The Myrtle Beach Fire Department said crews were called to a home on 48th Avenue North.

The agency said it later called a Mayday due to rapidly changing conditions, but all crews were able to get out and are accounted for.

Department spokesperson Jon Evans said that while everything is still under investigation, it looks like a ceiling collapse, disorienting the team.

Evans said that everyone on the team, including the one firefighter taken to the hospital, is expected to be okay. Evans added that it is rare for the agency to have someone get hurt like this.

Officials said the fire is under control at this time, and the cause will be under investigation.
