DC FIREFIGHTER FALLS THROUGH FLOOR, RESCUED

By WUSA9:

A firefighter was rescued after falling through a floor while battling a two-alarm fire early Saturday morning in Northeast D.C. Officials said the firefighter was removed safely and appeared to be uninjured.

The D.C. Fire and EMS Department responded to the fire around 2 a.m. in the 2200 block of 16th St. NE, where flames engulfed the basement and first floor of a residential structure. As firefighters worked to contain the blaze, one fell through the first floor, prompting a “Mayday!” call. Crews quickly pulled the firefighter to safety.

Firefighters continued battling the flames as they spread to the second floor, proceeding with extreme caution due to structural concerns. Officials described the operation as high risk, citing the compromised integrity of the first floor.

Approximately 20 units and 100 personnel responded to the scene, working to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent row homes.
