What Do Firefighters Want In 2025? (The Secret List)

All,
Whenever I read that, I always wonder to myself “Well..it depends…”

I am thinking things like:

1-Could SOMEONE please check on the healthcare system so its failures (those who need help-but it’s rarely an emergency) don’t fall into the laps of fire rescue EMERGENCY medical providers? Of course, we care about Mrs Smith-but after a dozen 9-1-1 calls for her dealing with the same non-emergency issues, someone else ALSO has to care.
2-Volunteers would like:
A-More volunteers to show up. Immediately.
B-The powers to be, to hire some career personnel.
C-To stop having to raise funds to buy the equipment that they operate for free. Something HAS to give? It already has.
3-Staffing can’t be an afterthought. Start with heavy first-alarm assignments.
4-Not wealthy fire departments would like to see wealthy departments stop getting grants.
5-Firefighters with cancer and other proven and presumptive diseases don’t have to fight for assistance while fighting for their lives.
6-Dispatch systems where the questions “Where is it? What is it? What’s your phone number?  is all that’s needed to start the bells immediately ringing and then… ask all the other questions after the FD is alerted.
7-The focus of leadership and operational training at the COMPANY OFFICER level becomes a HIGH priority before, during, and after promotion. MOST problems can be prevented, fixed or curbed at the COMPANY OFFICER level WHEN an investment is made by the organization.
8-Refocus on awarding GRANTS. The original intent was for equipment and staffing for areas that genuinely need help. With due respect to our many friends who have done awesome work, I’m not sure we need another grant to fund a study telling us why we have heart attacks, strokes, and occupational cancer problems.
Those are just a few of my thoughts. Glad you asked.

NOW IT’S YOUR TURN:
