FIRE APPARATUS CRASH IN CALIFORNIA

A Manteca Fire Department engine was involved in a crash as it was responding to a medical call on Friday, the department said.

Officials said Engine Company 247 was heading to the call around 10:20 a.m. when it collided with a sedan at the intersection of Yosemite and Washington avenues.

No one was injured in the crash, officials said.

The fire department said a black sedan had tried to make a left turn in front of the engine, and both vehicles were significantly damaged.

The issue, officials said, is that the damaged engine was already being used as a backup apparatus for another engine in the fleet. The damaged engine will now be out of service for an extended period of time.

“We are working diligently to maintain uninterrupted service to the community,” the fire department said on Facebook.

The fire department reminded drivers to remain alert and yield to emergency vehicles.
