A roll over crash last Friday morning resulted in multiple injuries to Calvert City Fire Chief Tim Davis and heavily damaged a Gilbertsville Fire Department truck. Chief Davis is also a member of Gilbertsville Fire Department according to Calvert City Mayor Gene Colburn. Members of Gilbertsville Fire Department also assist Calvert City Fire Department at times.
Davis was responding to a call for aid on I-24 in the Gilbertsville Fire Protection District early Friday morning. He was operating the truck along a stretch of Lone Valley Road just outside Calvert City on the way to the intersection of US 62 and I-24 when the truck left the roadway and overturned.
Marshall County Sheriff’s Department worked the accident and provided the following release about their investigation of the accident:
“On 9-27-24, at approximately 5:12am, deputies responded to a one vehicle collision involving a fire truck belonging to the Gilbertsville Fire Department which was enroute to an emergency call for service. The fire truck was southbound traveling on Lone Valley Road between Jacey Blake Road and 5th Avenue in the Calvert City area. Upon coming around the curve just past Jacey Blake Road, the driver’s side tire of unit one left the roadway to the left. Unit one was then pulled back onto the road and the passenger’s side tire then left the roadway to the right. Unit one then slid off the roadway and made impact with a small tree. Upon hitting the tree, unit one went airborne and then rolled over onto its top. It was raining and the roadway was very wet with water pooling at the time of the collision. The fireman, Timothy Davis, that was operating the vehicle was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.”
According to Mayor Colburn, Davis received treatment for injuries at a local hospital Friday and was released later that day with three broken ribs and other injuries. He is recovering at home according to Colburn.
Colburn said fire truck roll over accidents are something firemen train for regularly, because of the risk of having a rollover accident.
