CRASH BRINGS DOWN POWER LINE ON LADDER TRUCK – MISSOURI

A traffic accident brought a power line down onto a fire department ladder truck Wednesday in Jefferson City.

A news release from the Jefferson City Fire Department said the truck was parked on St. Mary’s Boulevard while its crew underwent fire prevention inspections at nearby businesses.

Around 3 p.m., a tractor-trailer struck a nearby high-voltage electric line, bringing it down onto the truck along with the pole and energizing the vehicle. Fire personnel were not on board the vehicle when the accident occurred, according to the release.

Additional fire personnel, the Jefferson City Police Department and Ameren Missouri arrived on the scene to assist. Ameren workers secured the power lines and restored power to customers in the area.

The fire department and the manufacturer of the truck were assessing the damage to the truck as of Wednesday afternoon. The extent of the damage was unknown.
