THE GROVE, Texas (KWTX) A Central Texas man is dead after his car collided head-on with an ambulance at 2:40 a.m. Saturday, the Department of Public Safety said.
DPS Sgt. David Roberts said Lance Michael Stevens, 23, was driving a Kia Optima on Highway 36 a mile north of The Grove when he drifted into the oncoming lane of traffic.
Stevens collided with an ambulance that was transporting a patient from Brownwood to the V.A. hospital in Temple, Roberts said.
Stevens was the only person inside of the car, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Beverly Jones.
Roberts said the driver of the ambulance, an ambulance crew member, and the patient were taken to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple with non-incapacitating injuries.
DPS said there are no pending charges. DPS urges drivers to avoid distracted, impaired, or fatigued driving.
