LAWSUIT: CT. FIREFIGHTERS DIDNT ENTER THE BURNING BUILDING “FAST ENOUGH” TO ATTEMPT RESCUE

The daughter of a Waterbury (CT) woman who died in a 2007 fire is suing the city’s fire department and the man charged with starting the fire. The daughter of 45-year-old Gaytrie Seegolam also is suing the Bradley Gardens condominium complex, where Seegolam was killed in a February 2007 fire. Aveina Pendergrast says firefighters did not enter the building as quickly as they should have, and that her mother’s apartment lacked proper safety features. A Waterbury city attorney declined to comment, saying they had not had a chance to fully review the lawsuit yet. A man who lived in a unit below Seegolam’s is charged with manslaughter. Authorities say Michael San Angelo started the fire when he passed out with a lit cigarette in his hand. He has pleaded not guilty.
