FIRE APPARATUS STRIKES VEHICLE IN MD

Two people were hospitalized following a Wednesday evening crash in which a fire truck struck another vehicle in North Laurel, according to the Howard County Police Department.

The collision occurred at about 5:58 p.m. on Route 216 just west of All Saints Road.

The fire engine was responding to a fire call and heading east in the fast lane of Route 216 when it swerved to avoid a disabled vehicle in the road, police said,

Instead, the fire truck  lost control and ended up hitting a 1998 Ford Windstar that was stopped at the traffic light at All Saints Road, police said.

No fire department personnel were injured in the collision, police said. The fire engine’s driver was identified as Daniel Jackson Marasco, 38. Police believe he was driving too fast for the weather conditions.

Two of the Ford’s three passengers were injured in the accident and were taken to Howard County General Hospital. They were identified as Dayana Sujeidi Jimenez, a 27-year-old who was driving the van, and Amelia Ruda, a 47-year-old who was a passenger in a rear seat.

Both were listed in stable condition, according to police.  The person sitting in the passenger-side front seat was not injured.
