WATERLOO, Iowa — A Waterloo-bound ambulance from Eldora collided with a van Sunday.
The crash didn’t result in any injuries, but Waterloo Fire Rescue paramedics helped the ambulance patient, who had allegedly suffered cardiac arrest, make the last leg of the journey to Allen Hospital, according to police.
The crash happened at about 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of Broadway and Cedar Bend streets, which is controlled by a traffic light.
The Eldora ambulance, driven by Lyle Jeske, 66, of Eldora, was headed east on Broadway with its lights and sirens running as the traffic signal began to turn red, according to the accident report.
Jeske told police he thought the other motorists were going to yield to him.
The other driver, Christopher Sage, 46, of 2240 E. Cedar Wapsie Road, Waterloo, was headed north on Cedar Bend, and he told police he didn’t notice the ambulance’s lights and sirens until the collision, the accident report states.
Sage followed the car ahead of him into the intersection when his light changed to green, and Jeske braked and collided with Sage’s van, the accident report states.
No citations were issued in the crash, the report states.
