Ambulance slams into cars, Hwy 169 backed up – Oklahoma

Tulsa police say an ambulance slammed into a car Wednesday morning, causing a wreck that involved six vehicles and sending several people to the hospital.

The incident began shortly before 8:30 a.m. as police worked another wreck along the highway just north of 61st Street.

Officers say the Emergency Medical Services Plus ambulance from Claremore was trying to enter the highway from the 61st Street onramp when it slammed into traffic backed up by the previous wreck.

The collision started a chain reaction that badly damaged several vehicles, completely flipping a pickup over onto its top.

EMSA ambulances transported three people to area hospitals. None of the injuries were considered life-threatening by emergency workers at the scene.

Investigators have not released any names of the people involved.

Police on the scene say that the ambulance drive will be cited for the wreck.

As of 9:15 a.m, two lanes on northbound Highway 169 remained closed, leaving one lane open and keeping traffic clogged in both directions.
