Jersey City Fire Injures 2 Firefighters

Eleven residents were displaced and two Jersey City firefighters injured by a two-alarm fire that ripped through a two-story building Saturday evening, fire officials said.

Firefighters called to 296 Sip Ave. at 10:34 p.m. found both floors burning, Fire Director Armando Roman said.

Huge flames were shooting from the upper floor windows and heavy smoke poured into the street, Roman said.

During the one hour it took to bring the fire under control, Firefighter Nelson Ortiz, assigned to Ladder 7, suffered dehydration, and Francis Devaney, assigned to Ladder 9, received a neck injury. Both were treated and released, Roman said.
