Four Ottawa paramedics were injured while responding to motor vehicle collisions during the freezing rain late last night.
Ottawa Police and the OPP reported "several" crashes on the Queensway and Ottawa streets last night as the first system of freezing rain moved across the National Capital Region.
Ottawa Paramedics say in two of the motor vehicle collisions being attended to by paramedics, "inattentive motorists" slammed into ambulances at the scene.
The first incident happened on the westbound Queensway around 10:14 pm, when paramedics say an ambulance with all emergency warning systems activated was rear-ended by a black Chevrolet Blazer. Two paramedics were treated for injuries by a second crew.
Around 10:45 pm, paramedics say an ambulance with its emergency warning systems activated on Highway 417 eastbound near Woodroffe was rear-ended by a vehicle. Two paramedics were treated for back injuries.
Paramedics say if you see an ambulance on the road with its warning lights activated, you should reduce your speed, pass with caution, and leave plenty of space between your vehicle and the ambulance by moving over one full lane.
No serious injuries were reported by Ottawa Police or the OPP during the series of collisions.
