Sacramento Firefighters Injured: Two Sacramento Firefighters Injured / Burned At House Fire

Two Sacramento City Firefighters were injured while battling a fire in South Sacramento.

The home on the 4400 block of 39th Avenue became engulfed in flames just before 4:30pm.

The 30-foot high flames surrounded the home and made it difficult for firefighters to gain access.

One firefighter identified as four-year veteran Doug Calvert suffered 1st and 2nd degree burns to his face. He was transported to UC Davis Medical Center where he was treated and released.

A second firefighter suffered first degree burns to his ears. He was treated at the scene. Injuries for both appear to be minor.

The home’s resident Leonard Dickenson tells FOX40 he left his home but forgot to turn off the grease-filled pan on his stove. When he returned to find the grease fire, he poured water on it, which only expanded the flames.
