A man is taken into police custody after allegedly assaulting a Columbus fire paramedic during an apartment fire Friday morning.
Columbus fire investigators were called to the scene of an apartment fire that started at about 8:50 a.m. at a nine-unit apartment building on the 1400 block of Indianola Avenue.
The fire was contained at about 9 a.m.
While firefighters were working to extinguish the blaze, a CFD paramedic was searching a unit for victims.
During the search, a male resident of one of the apartments allegedly assaulted the paramedic.
Witnesses told NBC 4 the resident’s interference caused injury to a second apartment resident who had to escape the flames by jumping from a back window. The resident suffered a broken leg.
The man was arrested by Columbus police and could face charges of assault and misconduct at an emergency.
Red Cross volunteers were assisting those who were misplaced by the fire.
