A Walpole ambulance will be out of commission for some time after a car accident last weekend, according to Fire Chief Tim Bailey.
Bailey said a mat in the ambulance prevented the driver from operating a pedal correctly and the ambulance rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection of High Plain and Washington streets.
It happened at about 5 p.m. on Oct. 2.
No one was injured in the accident, according to the Fire Department.
Bailey said the ambulance sustained about $5,000 worth of damage to the front-end and lights.
Relative to the $200,000 value of ambulances, the damage was fairly minor, the chief said.
The ambulance is currently out being repaired, he said.
Bailey confirmed the driver, Firefighter Brian Cherella, had been involved in another ambulance accident years back.
He declined to comment on whether or not Cherella will face any disciplinary actions.
